I have lots of super cute ideas for baby cakes, unfortunately I do not have an abundance of babies around me. So instead I aim to pass off possible baby/child cakes as 'adult' cakes. I have found this to be easiest with animal cakes.
I made this first cake for a very close family friend who has been a second mother to me and who love love loves giraffes. It was her 60th last year so I whipped up this little cutie.
Harold (as I started calling him) is a combination of cherry ripe mud and jaffa mud - two very popular flavors. Everything about his cute little self is edible and every part of him got eaten, starting with his head following his decapitation........ gruesome huh?
Only a few weeks before Harold's creation and quick demise, I got to practice my animal making skills on an 18th birthday cake - an elephant. There's a story. A lady I used to work with had made her son an elephant birthday cake when he was younger but, at the last minute, had decided to spice things up and made the elephant green instead of grey........ It turned out to be a cake no one forgot and a story that is still told! Hence I was tasked with recreating the green elephant in 3D for her son's 18th.
I had a lot of fun with this one, if not a few terrifying moments with the trunk structure (I have often heard cake decorators say it would be useful to have an engineering degree when trying to design cakes and ensure the structure's integrity) I heard this poor guy was decapitated too but alas have no photo evidence.
I really really want to try a baby cow (seems cuter then saying calf) I have some awesome cowboy ideas that would work perfectly with a farm themed party or baby shower. I'm just saying.......
